Positive Growth Counseling
We have found a different counseling agency for our students. Positive Growth as you will read has a very strong focus on working with youth. If you are interested, please fill out the form below and return it back to the school. Even if you do not have insurance or are unsure if your insurance will be accepted, fill out the referral form located here. They will still service our students who do not currently have insurance. Also, they have a summer program for teens. They are located less than 10 minutes away from the school. We have met with them and are very pleased by the level of service we believe they will provide the children at our school.

History: Positive Growth Inc. (PGI) is a non-profit organization accredited by the National Council on Accreditation (COA). PGI was founded in 1994 to provide consultation to residential treatment facilities in the metro Atlanta area. After realizing the high rate of delinquency and homelessness in Georgia, PGI decided to increase its service base by providing troubled and homeless adolescent males with a clean, safe, and nurturing environment to call home. PGI was approved for operation by the Department of Human Resources and received its child care license in October 1997, opening its doors as a quality residential, out-of-home placement for troubled and/or homeless males 6-21 years of age. In 2007, PGI initiated its community-based, family services program through Positive Growth Counseling Center to provide integrated child-focused and family-centered services throughout the metro Atlanta area. Positive Growth, Inc. (PGI) strives to be one of the premier residential and community-based mental health service programs throughout the state of Georgia. PGI is dedicated to improving the lives of children, youth, adults, and families during difficult life transitions by providing comprehensive residential and community-based treatment services. Our goals are to provide high-quality and culturally competent services that are individualized and built on strengths and to empower and support the people we serve to live self-determined, productive, and valued lives within our community. To accomplish these goals, PGI has developed and now offers programs based on prevention, intervention, treatment, rehabilitation, residential, and other support services in a personalized, flexible manner appropriate to the needs of each child, adolescent, adult, and family we serve. PGI services are offered in a nondiscriminatory manner without regard to race, color, creed, religion, age, disability, or any other personal characteristic protected by the law.
Behavioral Health Services: Positive Growth Inc.’s mental health and substance abuse programming is an intervention and prevention program specializing in helping children, adolescents, adults, and families find the path that leads to a successful and positive life. The program provides a supervised structured environment combining skilled building, counseling, positive reinforcement, goal planning, job skills, education enrichment, substance awareness, and cultural activities. Services are facilitated through our Counseling Center where we seek to support, empower, and enable individuals, families, and communities to be strengthened through professional community-based services that will enhance the health, safety, and needs of the community. Our services are evidence-based and provided in the least restricted areas: at homes, schools, neighborhood sites, or our office located in Clarkston. The mental health and substance abuse programming services are offered daily during the day, evening, and weekends.
Through our CORE services, we provide the following support services: Comprehensive Assessments, Individual Therapy, Family Therapy and Skill Building, Case Management, Group Therapy and Group Skill Building, and Substance Abuse Treatment (Individual & Group).
School-Based Behavioral Health Services Program (SBBH)
SBBH is a vital component of our school community, dedicated to addressing students' mental health and well-being. Grounded in the belief that a supportive and nurturing environment is essential for academic success, the program offers a range of services to support students' social, emotional, and behavioral needs.
At the core of SBBH is the recognition that many students face various challenges that may impact their ability to thrive in school. These challenges can range from academic stressors and peer conflicts to more complex mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and behavioral disorders. SBBH aims to provide timely intervention and support to address these challenges, promoting resilience, fostering positive coping skills, and empowering students to reach their full potential. Key components of SBBH include assessment and evaluation, counseling and therapy services, psychiatric/medication consultation, case management, crisis intervention, prevention, and education. PGI’s SBBH multidisciplinary team of professionals will deliver these services, including the SBBH team lead, behavioral health counselors, psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, case managers, and support staff, who collaborate closely with school personnel, families, and community partners. By integrating behavioral health services into the school environment, SBBH seeks to reduce barriers to access, minimize the stigma associated with seeking help, and create a culture of wellness that supports students' holistic development. Through early intervention, individualized support, and a collaborative approach, SBBH endeavors to promote all students' well-being, academic success, and long-term resilience.
Multicultural Services Program (a branch of Positive Growth’s traditional residential and community-based mental health service agency) provides multilingual and culturally sensitive mental health, substance abuse, social, and educational services to immigrants and refugee children, adults, and families in more than 20 languages from various ethnic and linguistic minority groups. Our Multicultural Service Center was established as a means to answer the increasing demand of behavioral health services provided to our refugee and immigrant populations. We serve approximately 250 clients through our multicultural services.
